W27 Collective

At some point, every growing company accidentally builds a maze.

The product team is solving one problem. Operations is solving another. Engineering is buried in complexity. Leadership keeps asking why execution feels slower despite having more people.

That’s usually when the meetings multiply, the systems stop scaling cleanly, and everyone starts inventing workarounds just to keep things moving.

We help companies untangle the operational, product, and technology decisions creating friction underneath the business — so teams can move with clarity again instead of brute force.

Three ways we restore execution momentum

We provide executive technology leadership, systems design, and focused recovery support when product, operations, and delivery need to realign.

Fractional CTO Leadership

Ongoing CTO-level leadership for companies that need stronger technical direction, delivery rhythm, and engineering accountability without a full-time executive hire.

  • Applied AI strategy for products, teams, and operations
  • Technical strategy and architecture direction
  • Engineering leadership and team structure guidance
  • Operating cadence and delivery accountability
  • Priority and roadmap decision support

Product & Operations Systems Design

Cross-functional solution design for workflows, tools, customer journeys, and internal systems where product, operations, and technology must work as one.

  • Workflow mapping and bottleneck analysis
  • Internal tooling and CRM/process integration strategy
  • Customer lifecycle and service-system design
  • Product and operations blueprint definition
  • Operational automation opportunity design

Execution Recovery & Transformation

Focused intervention for teams facing stalled delivery, fragile systems, or unclear execution priorities that are limiting growth and leadership confidence.

  • Constraint and execution-blocker identification
  • Roadmap reset and priority realignment
  • Team alignment and decision-rights cleanup
  • Architecture direction for stabilization and scale
  • Execution cadence and accountability system design

Impact we have delivered across product, operations, and technology

We focus on measurable execution outcomes that improve growth, delivery speed, and leadership visibility in complex operating environments.

A practical operating model from diagnosis to sustained execution

We work with leadership and teams to identify constraints, align direction, design the right path, execute with discipline, and improve the operating rhythm over time.

  1. Diagnose

Identify the product, operations, system, team, and execution constraints that are slowing results.

  2. Align

Create shared direction across leadership, product, design, engineering, and operations.

  3. Design

Define the operating model, workflows, and solution path needed to move with clarity.

  4. Execute

Partner with teams to turn decisions into delivery and unblock progress where it stalls.

  5. Improve

Establish cadence, accountability, and feedback loops that sustain momentum over time.

A cross-functional partnership for execution, systems, and customer experience.

Kal Walkden and Amy Wimmer work across product, operations, design, and technology to help leadership teams restore momentum and scale with clarity.

Kal Walkden

CTO, Product & Engineering Executive, and Fractional Technology Leader

Kal Walkden is a CTO and product and engineering executive focused on improving execution in companies where technology, teams, or operating models are limiting business performance. His work spans both growth and stabilization environments, helping organizations scale more effectively, restore momentum, and operate with greater clarity and predictability.

Over the last 25+ years, Kal has led product and engineering organizations across startups, growth-stage companies, and enterprise environments including HelloFresh (Factor), Double Good, ForeverCar, IBM, Philips Electronics, and TransUnion. His experience includes stabilizing revenue-critical platforms, enabling hypergrowth, improving development velocity and release throughput, modernizing legacy systems, and building product and engineering capabilities from zero revenue through acquisition outcomes.

Through W27 Collective, Kal works with companies in fractional CTO and advisory capacities, helping leadership teams align architecture, product direction, organizational structure, and execution strategy. His consulting work includes modernization initiatives, technical leadership during growth transitions, operational resets, and complex backend/platform development.

Kal also advises investors and operators through technical diligence and post-acquisition advisory work, with exposure to transactions and funding activity exceeding $400M in aggregate value.
